Google Messenger renamed as Android Messages

To all those who use Google Messenger, you should be receiving an update from Google that will rename the app to Android Messages. This name change is possibly to avoid confusion with Facebook Messenger, since when viewing the app icon in your app drawer, you’d see “Messenger” written twice, side-by-side with their own respective icons. That could have easily been confusing for many.

Whether “Messenger” and “Messages” is that much less confusing, well… Perhaps not.

The update also added a new and simpler method of signing up for enhanced messaging (RCS). I could not see this in action since I am already using RCS via Rogers Wireless.
